What Do We Want Health Insurance To Be? The Latest Installment of "Pulling It Together, From Drew Altman"
In the latest essay from the series "Pulling It Together, from Drew Altman," the Foundation's President and CEO argues that trends in the marketplace and differences in approaches to health reform warrant more attention to the fundamental question: what should health insurance be? The analysis draws on findings from the just-released 2008 Kaiser/HRET Employer Health Benefits Survey, a benchmark survey that finds premiums for employer-sponsored coverage rose to $12,680 annually for family coverage, of which employees on average pay $3,354. In addition, the study found that the scope of coverage has changed, with many more workers now enrolled in high-deductible plans.
